North Raccoon River Water Trail

The North Raccoon River Water Trail in Sac County is 41 miles long, starting at Vogel access northeast of Nemaha and ending a mile south of Grant Park in Auburn. Starting in the fall of 2020 and continuing into 2021, the Sac City Recreational Trails Committee, the Sac County Conservation, the DNR, and local volunteers have been working to improve the water trail.

Improvements include new accesses at McDonald Greenbelt just north of Highway 20 and Riverview (Lions) Park in Sac City.  Many obstructions have been cleared on the water trail to make it safer for paddlers, specifically from McDonald Greenbelt to Chautauqua Park access.

A recommended route would be from McDonald Greenbelt access to Riverview Park access which is 5 miles and approximately a 3-hour trip.  It is easy to get in and easy to get out.

The Sac County Conservation has applied for the DNR Water Trail Planning Assistance Grant. Obstruction removal will continue.
